My favorite kind of therapy: playful living

Mental health does not always look like a perfectly color-coded morning routine, a silent meditation room, or a green juice in a mason jar. Sometimes it looks like chasing a virtual Pikachu through a park, stopping to photograph a flower that absolutely did not ask to be admired, and convincing your dogs that today is, in fact, an adventure.
For me, mental wellness is built through small, joyful habits that make life feel softer, brighter, and a little more magical.
One of my favorite habits is playing Pokémon Go. Yes, really. There is something unexpectedly healing about walking outside with a mission, noticing your surroundings, and getting a tiny burst of joy when something rare pops up. It turns an ordinary walk into a treasure hunt, and honestly, adulthood needs more treasure hunts.
It gets me moving, helps me unplug from stress, and reminds me that fun is not a waste of time. Fun is fuel.
Family, friends, and the people who make life lighter
Spending time with family and friends is another huge part of how I take care of my mental health. The right people can bring you back to yourself. They make you laugh when your brain is being dramatic, listen when life feels heavy, and remind you that you do not have to carry everything alone.
Connection matters. Even a simple conversation, shared meal, or spontaneous outing can reset your whole mood. And people in your life do not have to remain static. Most places in the world there is always an opportunity to meet new people who can add spice to your life journey.
Dogs make everything better
Taking my dogs on adventures is one of the purest forms of happiness I know. Dogs do not overthink. They do not worry about unread emails. They are just thrilled to be outside, sniffing the air like tiny furry philosophers.
Being with them helps me stay present. Whether we are walking a trail, exploring somewhere new, playing fetch, or just enjoying fresh air together, they remind me that joy can be simple.
Finding my people in new places
I also love finding like-minded people in new communities. There is something special about meeting people who share your energy, your curiosity, or your slightly quirky interests. It makes the world feel more welcoming.
Sometimes mental health improves when you realize you are not too much, too weird, or too whimsical. You just had not found your people yet. This is why I always encourage myself to never stop meeting new people, your new bestie could be just one conversation away.
Flowers, tiny wonders, and paying attention
And then there is one of my sweetest habits: taking pictures of flowers. I know that may sound small, but it is one of the easiest ways I practice mindfulness.
Flowers do not rush. They do not compete. They just bloom in their own time and look fabulous doing it. Honestly, that is the kind of energy I want.
Stopping to notice beauty, especially in ordinary moments, helps me slow down and breathe. It reminds me that there is still softness in the world.
Mental health can be gentle
I think we sometimes make mental wellness feel intimidating, when really it can begin with simple things. Play. Connection. Nature. Community. Curiosity. Beauty.
These habits may seem whimsical, but they help me stay grounded, open-hearted, and more like myself.
If any of this sounds like your kind of vibe, I would love to connect. Come say hi, share your favorite little joys, or tell me what helps you feel most alive. I am always happy to meet kind, like-minded people who believe healing does not have to be boring.
A gentle reminder
You do not need a perfect life to care for your mental health. Sometimes you just need a walk, a flower, a good laugh, a loyal dog, a workout, or maybe a Squirtle nearby. :)
And honestly? That is a pretty great place to start. Now excuse me, time to catch another Pokemon!
